What Hauls People Aboard

One of the books I am reading is Journeys Home 2: The Journeys of Men and Women to the Catholic Church, edited by Marcus Grodi. As its name suggests it is a collection of conversion stories of a number of men and women who have found their way to (or back to) the Catholic Church.

I want to share a small excerpt written by someone who was formerly a Dutch Reformed Calvinist. He writes

Like all converts I ever have heard of, I was hauled aboard not by those Catholic who try to “sell” the Church by conforming it to the spirit of the times by saying Catholics are just like everyone else, but by those who joyfully held out the ancient and orthodox faith in all its fullness and prophetic challenge to the world. The minimalists, who reduce miracles to myths, dogmas to opinions, laws to values, and the Body of Christ to a psycho-social club, have always elicited wrath, pity of boredom from me.

  1. So ‘Christ’ like. . . (“The minimalists, who reduce miracles to myths, dogmas to opinions, laws to values, and the Body of Christ to a psycho-social club, have always elicited wrath, pity of boredom from me.”), for him (poor HIM) to be filled with ‘wrath’ and ‘pity’ of boredom as HE judges the faith of others. . .

Mr. Grodi always fulfills his ‘responsibilities’ with respect and dignity during his ‘selected case study’ interviews on ‘The Journey Home’. And yes, most every convert interviewed mentions the solemnity of the Sacrifice of the Mass and the centralized ‘teaching authority’ of the Roman Catholic Church as pillars their newly embraced faith is built upon.

Though I ask, ‘why’ do so many claiming to be a ‘True Follower’ of Christ speak so declaratively righteous?

Statements regularly repeated and shared, similar to this individual in ‘Journeys Home 2: The journeys of Men and Women to the Catholic Church’, are shamefully hurtful to many individuals, couples and families who find their ‘existing’ faith currently maligned and marginalized by ‘their’ Roman Catholic Church.

How many Catholics today would willing stand before Jesus and ‘swear on their Bible’ that they have never acted upon a decision that might occasionally ‘call them out’ as a ‘Cafeteria Catholic?’

Time, archeology and science has proven ‘some’ miracles myth, St. Augustine himself, in his own writings late in life, acknowledged his earlier assertions regarding ‘some’ doctrine had evolved over time, laws that are ‘interpreted and enforced’ un-Christ-like should continue to be scrutinized and discussed, and if ‘Mega’ Evangelical Churches are considered ‘psycho-social clubs’ – how ‘dare’ anyone, but God Himself, criticize the faith of another. This convert’s definition of ‘The Body of Christ’ is seriously lacking. . .

Imagine the horror if ‘closed hearts’ encounter closed doors (Heaven’s Gates) at the end of earthly life. . .

Lord have mercy on this ‘celebrated convert’s’ soul.”
