Today was the final gathering of the Advent Retreat in Daily Living I’m offering at UST Law School this year. I am enormously grateful that, despite the fact that we are well into final exams (and in contrast to other years, when most of the students have peeled off before the end of the retreat to study), we had close to our full group for this final session.
We began the session, as always, by giving participants time to share in small groups the fruit of their prayer over this past week.
I then offered a reflection on this weeks’ theme – Our Response to God’s Invitation to Transformation. I began by talking about the reality that God wants more from us than intellectual assent to a checklist of beliefs. Rather, God invites a total transformation of ourselves so that we can offer our whole selves to being an instrument of God’s mercy and love in the world.
I then spent some time talking about the needs of the world – why our acceptance of God’s invitation is so crucial. Following, I talked a bit about the challenges created for us by God’s invitation to transformation. Finally, I talked about the prayer material I was inviting participants to pray with this week.
