Sharing Scripture

I hate chain letters. I always have. I’ve received tons over the years and I usually ignore them.

But I received a chain letter the other day that was inviting enough not to ignore. It as described as a “collective, constructive and hopefully uplifting Bible verse exchange.” It was set up the way chain letters often are – send an encouraging Bible verse to the person whose name was in the first position, then send the letter on to 10 more people, removing the name of the first person and adding my name.

Although I could have picked any number of verses to send, the first to come into my mind was the line on the plaque at the entrance of my study at home: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Phillipians 4)

More wonderful for me was getting to sit with the verses I’ve just started to receive from others. Although I’m sure I’ll get some more as the days go on, here’s what I’ve received thus far. May they be a source of encouragement and strength for you.

“Draw near to God and God will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)

“For I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous, do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) (two people sent this one)

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

“Be still and know that I am God.”
