Speak Only What is Useful for Building Up

We are less than two months away from election day in the United States, meaning even more articles, blogs and facebook posts than usual advancing the cause of one candidate or denouncing another, supporting one ballot initiative or arguing against it. As we ourselves respond and participate in such discourse (indeed, in any discourse), it is a good time to remind ourselves of the words of Ephesians:

Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.

And a few verses later:

Let now one deceive you with empty words.

Think before you speak: Am I building up the body of Christ with my words.

And evaluate what you hear, being aware that many will be speaking falsely.
